Military Physical Fitness Tests Overview
The US military branches each have their own physical fitness test standards. All branches test muscular endurance and cardiovascular fitness, though the specific events and scoring vary.
Army APFT
The Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) includes push-ups, sit-ups, and a 2-mile run, each scored on a 100-point scale for a maximum of 300 points. A minimum score of 60 per event is required to pass. The test is age and gender adjusted.
Navy PRT
The Navy Physical Readiness Test (PRT) includes push-ups, curl-ups, and a 1.5-mile run. Scores fall into categories: Outstanding, Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, and Probationary. The minimum passing standard is "Satisfactory."
Marines PFT
The Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test includes pull-ups (or push-ups), crunches, and a 3-mile run. Maximum score is 300 points. A minimum of 3 pull-ups (or 15 push-ups) and completing the run are required to pass.
